Stage 1: Desired Results
Established Goal:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.1.2
Ask and answer questions about key details in a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other media.
ISTE Standards
1c. Students use technology to seek feedback that informs and improves their practice and to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways
Students will understand:
Everything is made of matter.
The three states of matter are solid, liquids and gases.
Some of states of matter can change.
Students may misunderstand that not all matter can be brought back to their original form.
Essential Questions:
What is matter? Can matter change? In what ways can matter change?
* Students will develop an understanding of the three states of matter.
* Students will be able to illustrate, identify and explain their understanding of the states of matter.
Stage 2: Assessment Evidence
Performance Task:
The students will share their learning by creating a Seesaw blog with voice recording. The blog will need to include the following:
- An illustration of each state of matter
- Take a photo of their illustrations
- Each child will then record an explanation of each of the three states of matter
- Post their blog to be shared with me, class and their parents.
Other evidence: Students will play a states of matter sort. Students will also ask a question about what they have learned and what they are curious about.
Stage 3: Learning Plan
W.H.E.R.E.T.O
Where/What= Students will learn about the three states of matter. They will learn about solids, liquids and gases and then show their understanding by doing a blog post.
Hook/Hold = Share that students are going to go on a technology adventure and they can go at their own pace! They are going to uncover what matter is and share their understanding by doing a blog on Seesaw.
Explore= What is matter? What are different states of matter? Can an object change to a new state of matter? What kinds of experiments can we try to show how states of matter can change?
Rethink/Revise= Students may re-watch any of the videos to clarify their understanding. They also can play the game several times to double check their understanding of the three states of matter.
Evaluation= Could you explain the three states of matter to a friends? Can you make an illustration of each of the three state of matter?
Tailor= This lesson is tailored to the science concepts and the abilities of the first grade students.
Organize=Interest will be maintained by the student working at their own pace and using technology.
